A note on sources, dates, and historical context
This is a dissertation-based research timeline, especially detailed on education. It is not a complete chronology of Broadus’s publications or travels. Event summaries paraphrase the dissertation; significance notes offer editorial interpretation. Printed page references appear in each event.
Approximate dates remain approximate. Several dates—including the first sermon, wartime interruption, and Boyce’s death—need checking before a public scholarly launch. These qualifications remain visible in the relevant events. Later institutional developments are labeled separately from Broadus’s lifetime.
The chronology also addresses slaveholding, racial exclusion, and segregated education. Claims of educational access must be read within those historical limits.
